Who are this year’s Baltic Sea heroes?
Who has made an outstanding contribution to the Baltic Sea in recent years? Throughout September, Östersjöfonden will announce this year’s four award winners– one each week.
Since 1989, Östersjöfonden has recognised individuals and organisations whose work contributes to a healthier Baltic Sea. Through our awards, we want to highlight people who demonstrate that commitment, knowledge and determination can make a real difference for our shared sea.
This year, all four of our awards will be presented: the Lasse Wiklöf Award, the Youth Award, the Åland Award and the Baltic Sea Award.
This year’s recipients will be announced as follows:
- Week 37, 7–11 September: Lasse Wiklöf Award
- Week 38, 14–18 September: Youth Award
- Week 39, 21–25 September: Åland Award
- Week 40, 28 September–2 October: Baltic Sea Award
The awards recognise different forms of commitment to the Baltic Sea – from political action and youth initiatives to local efforts in Åland and significant contributions to the marine environment across the Baltic Sea region.
What this year’s winners have in common is that, in different ways, they show that change is possible – and that the commitment and actions of individuals matter.
On 2 October, this year’s winners will gather in Mariehamn to receive their awards at Baltic Sea Awards 2026, Östersjöfonden’s annual award ceremony.
